An #outsiders Newsflash From #Iraq & #Egypt: On the Plight of the Refugees

***Updated with a brief clip from the Daily Show****

The Tragedy of #Iraq is ever more as this heart wrenching report from @Al Jazeera's  Jane Araf underscores.   How a 110-Year man was beheaded by the sub human mutant scum of Dayesh (Also known as ISIL/ISIS/Islamic State) defies all sense of decency.  As #Iraq and #Syria continue to burn, #Israel also is on the edge as well with the attempted assassination of an Israeli Right Wing Activist by a suspected member of Islamic Jihad:

Iraqi refugees forced to live under ISIL - Middle East - Al Jazeera English

In the meantime, #Egypt has begun creating a buffer zone to combat militants by blowing up homes on the border with #Gaza.   The fight in #Kobane is continuing and we here @ #outsiders welcome how leading US Officials--including the US Special Envoy General Allen referring to the sub human mutants scums as Dayesh.   We are also continuing to assess the role of Turkey as we reviewed an interesting Washington Post report on the rift with Turkey on this subject.

Beyond the immediate ravages of the Middle East, we here @ #outsiders  have been assessing this report from +Oxfam GB

It is compelling reading that should be a wake-up call to all.    This is as the US is leading into the midterms which we hope to comment on.   The Daily Show has been on the road and shared once again a very colorful  perspective on the state of Politics in the United States Today--it speaks for itself:

Notations on Our World: A Challenging 24 Hours in the Middle East

It has been a challenging 24 hours yet again in the Middle East.

A prominent Egyptian Blogger,  Alaa Abdel Fattah, has been sent to jail for being accused of organizing illegal protests.    His Sister, Sanaa, was also tried and sentenced to three years for  organizing illegal protests.      This is as Egypt declared martial law in the lawless Sinai and declared intentions to create a buffer zone supposedly to fight  militants  The true realities, though, were laid out here:

It is clear that The Egyptian President is one paranoid  leader as he believes that the youth are as much a danger as they are.     As Egypt  struggles so does  #Israel.    It is ever so interesting observe how the true realities on the ground in Israel is becoming. ever so evident.     The new session of Israel's Parliament, the Knesset , has begun and the choices before Israel are ever so challenging in the aftermath of the Gaza War.   The Israeli Prime Minister has essentially killed off any further chances for negotiations by deciding on further settlement constructions in East Jerusalem as early elections loom.       This is fueling a silent Intifidah in Jerseulaum that #Abbas warned against:

Iraq continues its' journey to the edge of the abyss as the latest reports shows continued daily bombings in the capital and beyond with no apparent end in sight.   There  is also Saudi Arabia with this shocking news:

It seems as if criticism has no place in the Middle East today as exemplified by the continued detention of the Al Jazeera staff in Egypt.

Notations on Our World: Remembering a Victim of Injustice

It has been a challenging week-end around our World as we begin another week here throughout the Channels of #outsiders.   As we will be commenting on the latest from Israel, Syria, Iraq and all the other key focal points, the shameful episode on the injustice in Iran was ever so as this young girl was hanged in Tehran.   Her letter to her Mother is heart wrenching as reported in key Digital Media outlets around the World including the Huffington Post, Slate and others--and working its' way around the "Social Grid".    We have also decided to publish this as reported in Slate.com in its' entirety.    There are two key points that is worth noting:
  • She notes that "The World did not Love us".    The World did love her--unfortunately she was the victim of a hateful and vengeful system that defies humanity and compassion who latest manifestations reflect the horrific acid attacks in the City of Isfahan.
  • She will live on because she made the courageous decision to donate her organs--many will remember her.
It was also  gratifying to see that despite the pressure from Government Security Forces, some 300 people attended her funeral.  May her soul rest in peace and grant her family the solace to underscore that her spirit will live on with the lives of all whom she will make a difference for her final courageous act of courage and defiance.

A picture taken on July 8, 2007, shows Iranian Reyhaneh Jabbari standing handcuffed at police headquarters in Tehran after she was arrested for the murder of a former intelligence official.

The 26-year-old Iranian woman who was executed on Saturday for murdering a man she said tried to rape her sent a final message to her mother, asking her to make sure her organs would be donated. Reyhaneh Jabbari is largely calm in the voice message she recorded for her mother in April; in it she seems resigned to her fate after being on death row for five years. Iranian activists distributed a translation of the message, equating it to Jabbari’s will.
Jabbari was convicted of killing a former intelligence officer who had called her claiming he wanted her interior design advice. He then allegedly tried to rape her, and she stabbed him with a pen knife, although she denies murdering him. In her last message, she says her fate would have been death regardless.
That ominous night it was I that should have been killed. My body would have been thrown in some corner of the city, and after a few days, the police would have taken you to the coroner’s office to identify my body and there you would also learn that I had been raped as well. The murderer would have never been found since we don’t have their wealth and their power. Then you would have continued your life suffering and ashamed, and a few years later you would have died of this suffering and that would have been that.
However, with that cursed blow the story changed. My body was not thrown aside, but into the grave of Evin Prison and its solitary wards, and now the grave-like prison of Shahr-e Ray. But give in to the fate and don’t complain. You know better that death is not the end of life.
Jabbari then asks for one final favor from her mother: “Once again you have to suffer because of me. It is the only thing that if even you beg for it I would not become upset although I have told you many times not to beg to save me from being executed.” She did not want her organs to go to waste:
I don’t want to rot under the soil. I don’t want my eye or my young heart to turn into dust. Beg so that it is arranged that as soon as I am hanged my heart, kidney, eye, bones and anything that can be transplanted be taken away from my body and given to someone who needs them as a gift. I don’t want the recipient know my name, buy me a bouquet, or even pray for me.
Read the full text of the message after the jump.
Dear Sholeh, today I learned that it is now my turn to face Qisas (the Iranian regime's law of retribution). I am hurt as to why you did not let me know yourself that I have reached the last page of the book of my life. Don’t you think that I should know? You know how ashamed I am that you are sad. Why did you not take the chance for me to kiss your hand and that of dad?
The world allowed me to live for 19 years.
You taught me that one comes to this world to gain an experience and learn a lesson and with each birth a responsibility is put on one’s shoulder. I learned that sometimes one has to fight. I do remember when you told me that the carriage man protested the man who was flogging me, but the flogger hit the lash on his head and face that ultimately led to his death. You told me that for creating a value one should persevere even if one dies.
You taught us that as we go to school one should be a lady in face of the quarrels and complaints. Do you remember how much you underlined the way we behave? Your experience was incorrect. When this incident happened, my teachings did not help me. Being presented in court made me appear as a cold-blooded murderer and a ruthless criminal. I shed no tears. I did not beg. I did not cry my head off since I trusted the law.
But I was charged with being indifferent in face of a crime. You see, I didn’t even kill the mosquitoes and I threw away the cockroaches by taking them by their antennas. Now I have become a premeditated murderer. My treatment of the animals was interpreted as being inclined to be a boy and the judge didn’t even trouble himself to look at the fact that at the time of the incident I had long and polished nails.
How optimistic was he who expected justice from the judges! He never questioned the fact that my hands are not coarse like those of a sportswoman, especially a boxer. And this country that you planted its love in me never wanted me and no one supported me when under the blows of the interrogator I was crying out and I was hearing the most vulgar terms. When I shed the last sign of beauty from myself by shaving my hair I was rewarded: 11 days in solitary.
Dear Sholeh, don’t cry for what you are hearing. On the first day that in the police office an old unmarried agent hurt me for my nails I understood that beauty is not looked for in this era. The beauty of looks, beauty of thoughts and wishes, a beautiful handwriting, beauty of the eyes and vision, and even beauty of a nice voice.
My dear mother, my ideology has changed and you are not responsible for it. My words are unending and I gave it all to someone so that when I am executed without your presence and knowledge, it would be given to you. I left you much handwritten material as my heritage.
However, before my death I want something from you, that you have to provide for me with all your might and in any way that you can. In fact this is the only thing I want from this world, this country and you. I know you need time for this. Therefore, I am telling you part of my will sooner. Please don’t cry and listen. I want you to go to the court and tell them my request. I cannot write such a letter from inside the prison that would be approved by the head of prison; so once again you have to suffer because of me. It is the only thing that if even you beg for it I would not become upset although I have told you many times not to beg to save me from being executed.
My kind mother, dear Sholeh, the one more dear to me than my life, I don’t want to rot under the soil. I am telling you from the bottom of my heart that I don’t want to have a grave for you to come and mourn there and suffer. I don’t want you to wear black clothing for me. Do your best to forget my difficult days. Give me to the wind to take away.
The world did not love us. It did not want my fate. And now I am giving in to it and embrace the death. Because in the court of God I will charge the inspectors, I will charge inspector Shamlou, I will charge judge, and the judges of country’s Supreme Court that beat me up when I was awake and did not refrain from harassing me. In the court of the creator I will charge Dr. Farvandi, I will charge Qassem Shabani and all those that out of ignorance or with their lies wronged me and trampled on my rights and didn’t pay heed to the fact that sometimes what appears as reality is different from it.
Dear soft-hearted Sholeh, in the other world it is you and me who are the accusers and others who are the accused. Let’s see what God wants. I wanted to embrace you until I die. I love you.

Notations on Our World: On the Tragic Day in #Canada, #Israel , #Jokowi & Other Thoughts

It has a tragic week around our World.   In Canada,  A   Soldier was killed by what we can only describe as a lowlife scum of the Earth at the Canadian National War Memorial and thereafter wrecked havoc on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.    From the reports we reviewed here @ "Outsiders", Parliament was in session and the Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, was immediately taken to safety as Parliament went under lock down as the lowlife was shot by the House of Commons Sergeant at Arms:

The Leader of the Opposition, Tom Mulcair,  spoke for all when he reminded Canadians and the World of the sentiment as Canada came to terms with this tragic day:

My fellow Canadians,
Today, the peace of our nation’s capital was shattered by an act of hatred and brutality. A cowardly act, designed to strike at the very heart of our democracy — at the heart of who we are.
It was carried out on the very ground where we come together to exchange ideas with the knowledge that whatever our differences we will always resolve them peacefully.
It was intended to make us more fearful of our neighbours and less confident in ourselves. But it has failed.
Today’s events have instead only succeeded in drawing us closer, in making us stronger.

To the brave women and men of law enforcement, our security services and our Canadian Forces: Your determination, your professionalism and indeed your heroism today will not soon be forgotten.
Just as we have all borne witness to these horrific acts, we have watched in awe your acts of courage — now an abiding emblem of Canadian strength, values and valour.
The thoughts and prayers of 35 million Canadians are with the family and loved ones of Corporal Nathan Cirillo — the Canadian Forces member from Hamilton, Ontario who lost his life this morning, the second in just a few days.
In this moment, Canadians are united in grief, and stricken with disbelief. Canada is shaken today, but we shall not waver.
We woke up this morning in a country blessed by love, diversity and peace, and tomorrow we will do the same.
These acts were driven by hatred, but also designed to drive us to hate. They will not. We will stand up, and we will stand together. We will persevere, and we will prevail.

Beyond Canada, there is again the Middle East that continues to burn ever more.     A Palestinian rammed his car into a train station in Jerusalem which resulted in the killing of a small child.    As the World was transfixed on Operations Protective Edge in Gaza, the tensions in Jerusalem has continued ever more especially as Jewish settlers continue their inroads with "purchases" of Palestinian properties using questionable tactics that is resulting in Palestinians being made homeless in many instances.   This is also as settlement activity is continuing despite admonitions from the World including the United States.     The Economy Minister, Bennett, who made waves by attacking John Kerry, noted that the attack underscored the need to step up settlement activity and to respond with an iron fist.    It is still amazing to observe how there are still brave voices within Israel who speak out against Israeli Government Policy as exemplified by the Israel Member of the Knesset, Haneen Zoabi--who spoke out against the war in Gaza and has angered elements on the Israeli Right calling for her expulsion from the Israeli Knesset or even the country.      It will be interesting to see the moves the Israeli Prime Minister will be making.

The daily suffering of the People of Syria and Iraq continues with no end in sight.  We here @ "outsiders" have been ever so amazed at the power of the Syrian Kurds as they continue fight against Dayesh.    As the Iraqi Prime Minister has been in Tehran visiting Iranian Government Leaders, bombings continue on a daily basis.     It was an interesting development to see Turkish approval to approve Iraqi Kurdish Fighters cross through Turkish Territory to join the defenders of Kobane.    This is as air drops were initiated by the US.  The official US narrative was that the supplies were from the Kurdish Government--which was a roundabout way of noting that the United States had stepped up further efforts.     It was also of profound concern as we went to press on disturbing developments out of Tunisia as terror suspects were battling Tunisian security forces on the eve of Parliamentary elections in Tunis.     It is also of profound concern to note that Libya continues its never ending descent into Chaos as it is only a country in name only.     The perceived "Arab" leader, Egypt, is also ever so challenged as Mr. Sisi tries to impose his will on the Country.    Two Israeli Soldiers were shot and wounded at the border--according to reports reviewed here @ "Outsiders", it was supposedly a fight with Drug Smugglers.   Sinai is basically a "no man's land" that is yet to be brought under some semblance of control after Sisi took charge as President.    This is as Democracy continues to be practiced in name only as exemplified by the plight of the Al Jazeera staffers who continue to be in detention.  We here @ Outsiders have lent our voice to the need to insure that they are released immediately.

Beyond Egypt, there is Iran.   The Acid attacks on young women has been horrific and the pictures have been too heart-wrenching as it was reviewed.  As we went to press here @ "outsiders",  it was a welcome development to see the direct intervention of the Minister of Health:

This report released on Facebook reflected the Minister in the Ambulance of one of the victims as she was being transported for further care and surgery to a major Medical Center.  He told her to Stay strong and that he would be checking on her as surgeries were planned to help her.

This week also saw the dawn of a new era for Indonesia--the election of a new President.   #Jokowi took charge as he begins being President of the World's most populous Muslim Nation.    He has his share of challenges before him as he has to deal with a parliament that is dominated by his opponents led by the former son-in-law of the former dictator, Suharto who challenged #Jokowi's election.   We here @ "Outsiders" will be assessing Indonesia as it enters the new era.

Despite all the challenges of our World, we end with a high note:   Diwali.   Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights, is the dawn of the Indian new year.   The Indian Prime Minister began his day visiting troops in the World Highest Battle Field as he wished his troops a Happy Diwali (Image Source; http://www.ndtv.com):

PM Modi To Jawans in Siachen: 'Happy Diwali, You Make It Possible for Indians to Celebrate'
PM Narendra Modi will soldiers at Siachen, the world's highest battlefield in Jammu and Kashmir
We here @ "outsiders' extend our best wishes to all Indians on this day as they celebrate the best of India which underscores a sense of hope despite all the challenges being faced in our World since as we went to press, we reviewed reports on Pakistan again shooting at Indian Border Posts once again violating the ceasefire.

Notations On the Plight of Human Rights in Iran: The Continued Struggle of Nasrin Sotoudeh

Nasrin Sotoudeh, the Human Rights Advocate and Lawyer, has been barred by the Iranian Bar Association under pressure from the Judiciary to practice Law.   In being on the "Grid", her statement on her intention to protest her disbarment is hereby noted which was released to her Facebook Page.   Although the statement is in Farsi, it lays out the plight of the lawyers, how the accused are denied right to Counsel and the sense of Justice that seems to be dissipating by the day in Iran today:

This is just one example of profound headwinds that the Rouhani Government continues to be faced with.   This is as the horrific acid attacks on Women in Iran's Second Largest City, Isfahan, continues to spread a sense of fear among women--despite assurances by the Spokesman's For the Judiciary that the culprits will be captured and prosecuted and lamented the crime in as strong as term as any official in the Islamic Republic could muster.

An "Outsider" Daily newsflash Courtesy of the Team @ MEMRI: Kurdish TV Parody of ISIS

As the fooliness of the  Sub human mutant Scum known as Dayesh (also known as ISIS/ISIL/Islamic State in the West) becomes ever so evident, it is ever so gratifying to see how they are portrayed in this clip on Kurdish Television.     We here @ "Outsiders" commend the team @ MEMRI (The Middle East Research Institute) for this clip and their effort.   We only would have hoped that they did the actual translation of the name these thugs are referred to in the Middle East: Dayesh...and not ISIS (they could have used it in parentheses as we do it here in Outsiders.

Nicely Done Kurdish Television!!!  Enjoy:  MEMRI: Kurdish TV Parody of ISIS

Notations on Our World: On #AbuDhabi, #Kobane & Other Thoughts

Being on the "Social Grid" over the Weekend was ever so eye opening as the noted Middle East Scholar shared this on her Facebook Page:

Post by Robin Wright.

This is the new palace by the Emir of Abu Dhabi.   The sand was imported from Algeria.    It is a beautiful piece of Architecture.   But, this sense of opulence underscores the continued challenge being faced in the Middle East Today.   It is also ever so emblematic of the challenge being faced WOrldwide about the continued income gap which the Chair of the Federal Reserve Board, Janet Yellen, warned about as the World Economy continues to be on the edge ever more.

Beyond the oasis of the United Arab Emirates, there is the reality of war in Iraq.    The daily reports are just too horrific.   The latest was the carnage ensued due to a suicide bombing at a Shiite Mosque in Baghdad that resulted in 17 deaths as they were leaving noon prayers.     The battle for #Kobane is also continuing with no apparent end in sight.   The latest developments included US airdrops for the fighters in #Kobane as some have dubbed it the Stalingrad of the Middle East. As we also went to press this morning, we received reports from Israel as reported by i24News that Israel Defense Forces opened fire at the Lebanon Border.   This is as the Iranian Foreign Minister, Dr. Zarif, is in Lebanon to reiterate Iranian Support for Lebanon as it also fights off the collateral damage of the insurgency in Syria.

A challenging World.....

A "Thought 4 the Week" As A New Week Dawns Here For "Outsiders"

View of the Week: On the continued tragedy that is #Iraq

The war in Iraq and Syria rages on and a consensus solution seems to be ever so out of reach.    One of the more insightful of analysis on the current prowess of the Islamic State was noted in Al Monitor Today:

The problem is that this insightful analysis called for a miracle which is currently not in the cards.     This is as the collateral damage of the disastrous Iraq war continues to be reported as epitomized by this report from the New York Times:

It is also ever so irnoic that the same paper that was one of the cheerleaders of the same war also had a front page story about how the plans to arms the moderate Syrian will not work based on CIA confidential reports.      What underscores the dilemma by the United States is ever so noted by the always eloquent KAL from the Economist Magazine:

Notations on the US Politics: As Elections Fever Spreads....

The final push has begun by all candidates throughout the United States.    It has been quite a spectacle to see the parties be on the money grab that they have been and the pathethic ways in which they have been on the prowl with emails like "I'm begging".    The targeted emails have been perfected to quite a science now as exemplified by this sent out by the Democratic Governors Association:

Hillary Clinton wrote to you: “Losing isn’t an option. Not this time. Not in these crucial midterm elections. There’s just too much at stake.”
Hillary is doing ALL SHE CAN, but she cannot…

If you say no, REPUBLICANS WILL SUPPRESS VOTERS AND … Wisconsin could be LOST. Texas, Georgia=STAYING RED. We won’t even take back deep-blueMaine.

Many in the United States have already voted via absentee ballot.   This is in spite of the fact that there have been constant challenges to the early voting process in a number of states--with challenges having gone all the way to the US Supreme Court.    What was unfortunate to observe though was such reporting and commentary as reported by the Washington Post and noted by Professor Jonathan Turley on his blog:

The Obama Factor: Kentucky Democrat Repeatedly Refuses To Admit That She Ever Voted For Obama

by jonathanturley
President_Barack_Obamaimages-2The Washington Post is reporting it as one of the most painful 40 seconds of this election cycle. Alison Lundergan Grimes (D) was asked a simple question: did you vote for President Obama. What followed in the clip below was one of the most revealing 40 seconds of how bad this election is becoming for Democrats and how radioactive the President has become. Grimes refuses to answer. She is trying to unseat Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) and these mid-term elections tend to reflect the view of the incumbent president as some voters try to either add support or resistance to a president in Congress. Obama's popularity stands at a dismal 30 percent in Kentucky. The clip is particularly interesting given the recent public statements of the President that this election is about his policies. It was an effort to rally Democrats but candidates who have been increasingly fleeing associations with the unpopular president cringed across the country. Given Obama's national polling, an election based his policies and Administration would magnify the already great expected losses in November, including the possible loss of both houses. Even long-time ally and former campaign manager David Axelrod said that the President's framing of the election as a vote on his policies was a huge mistake. The deer in the headlights look of Grimes reflects that point vividly.

It should not matter who voted for whom as  Chuck Todd of NBC News got into the mix to say that Allison Grimes totally 'disqualified" herself with the kind of campaign she's run.   What is unfortunate is that the Established Media in the United States has not had any stomach to question what the political leadership in the Country has done and has taken upon itself to qualify or disqualify candidates.     It is also worthy to note that someone like Ms. Grimes has not shown the vision to lay out a game plan for a state like Kentucky that has its' profound challenges and is relying on a dying industry--coal--to see what is next.  Mitch McConnell seems not to be held to account for all that he and his colleagues have done to make the US virtually ungovernable through Congressional inaction.   This is also ever so true with all who seem to be running for office today.

The political races, though, have had their share of "Surprises".   The race in Kansas for the US Senate is one example.  The race for South Dakota is another one that is fascinating to watch with three weeks to go.    What is clear is that it will be a long night for many on the first Tuesday in November this year.   Some races are pretty much a foregone conclusion:  Jerry  Brown will win and win big in California & Andrew Cuomo will win big in New York--and continue thinking about running for President.   Although the 2016 race has been going on since November 2012, it will start in earnest on November 5 as Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Chris Christie, Jeb Bush and many others on the Republian Side along with Hillary Clinton and others on Democratic side will begin the race.     Beyond Mrs Clinton and names like Vice President BIden and Governor O Malley of Maryland, one interesting dark horse is being touted by the Pundits:  Jim Webb, the former Senator from Virginia.

It will be fascinating to be yet again witness to history.

Notations From the Middle East: A Blast From the Past: On #Rouhani the Voyager & #Iran

Iran is about to begin a new round of negotiations on the nuclear question.   Dr. Zarif is in Vienna right now:

We here @ "outsiders" took a moment of pause to reflect upon the year or so that President Rouhani has been at the helm navigating a very tough economic and political climate both inside and outside the Country as the war rages on in Syria, Iran deals with profound challenges in the border with Pakistan and the Taliban insurgency continues to rage on in Afghanistan.

His inauguration was a desire to somehow transform the Country:

The hope was ever so expressed as milestones were achieved.    The scenes of Dr. Zarif, the Foreign Minister, as he returned to Tehran and was mobbed by well-wishers underscored the desire of all for some sort of change.  But the dead-enders were at it in the Parliament and the Judiciary--and are continuing their efforts even today.      President Rouhani has been playing his cards close to his chest especially as he had to deal with impeachment of his Ministers and trying to at least somehow steer the economic path to some reasonable sense of stability.

Some further indication of his thinking has been about comments he made in this clip as he noted how some live in the "Stone age" and don't realize that the Country belongs to the people.   He also underscored how the need to open up the Country was not a matter of "if", but when as the debate raged on about how "unlslamic" 3G could be--even as the Developed World has been debating the merits of 5G.    He also during the same clip underscored the challenge faced as the World fights Dayesh (also known as the Islamic State/ISIL/etc.).   It was quite interesting that the Secretary of State referred to them as Dayesh or "Dash" which apparently shows that the State Department is opening up to the thinking on the ground in the Middle East on the sub human mutant thugs.  He also called for unity and togetherness as he spoke at celebrations commemorating the birth of the 12th Imam.     The clip below is in Farsi:

A true sense of the love Iranians have for the land and the culture is underscored by this clip and the scenes from the traditions, history & beauty of Iran underscores what Rouhani seems to understand--whether the dead-enders are able to stiffle him (as they did Khatami) is an open question.  As all enjoy the music and the images, some images will be familiar (including one Noble Laureate, an Oscar Winner and the winner of the top prize in Mathematics):

Thought(s) 4 the Week: Stop Longing for "Easy"

On the eve of the Week-End here in "Outsiders", once again Jonathan Lockwood Huie exceeded expectations with his  weekly outreach which was ever so on point--and it is a pleasure to share it as this edition of "Thought 4 the Week" --may we all be ever so strong....

Of course there will be disappointments
and the way will not always be as I expected it.
But if it seemed easy, then that would be the time
to worry that I am on the wrong path.
- Anne Perry

When life is too easy for us, we must beware

or we may not be ready to meet the blows
which sooner or later come to everyone, rich or poor.
- Eleanor Roosevelt

Life is not easy for any of us.
But what of that?
We must have perseverance
and above all confidence in ourselves.
We must believe that we are gifted for something
and that this thing must be attained.
- Marie Curie

Rarely do we find men who willingly engage in hard, solid thinking.
There is an almost universal quest
for easy answers and half-baked solutions.
Nothing pains some people more than having to think.
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Do not pray for easy lives.
Pray to be stronger men.
- John F. Kennedy

Notations On Our World: : On #Malala and Satyarthi awarded #Nobel Prize; #Pakistan, #Markets & #Kobani

The day began with the Nobel Committee exceeding expectations by awarding the Peace Price to two ordinary individuals who have worked ever so to make a difference.  Al Jazeera reported on it as such and it has also continued to make inroads around the World: Malala and Satyarthi awarded Nobel Prize - Europe - Al Jazeera English.   It was also gratifying to see the View from Pakistan as GEO TV had it on its headline.

What was striking was the silence of Prime Minister Sharif.     His brother, the Chief Minister of Punjab, noted that Malala was "misguided".  That should be some indication of what Official Pakistan thinks of this brave little girl who has done ever so to make a difference for all.   But Molana noted that she wishes both Prime Minister Modi of India and the Pakistani Prime Minister to attend the ceremonies.   In lieu of the firing by Pakistan on Indian border posts, it will be a sight to see..   It was gratifying though to see that Pakistan's Army congratulated Malala.    We here @ "outsiders" congratulate both of these wonderful souls for what they have done to make a difference.

Beyond this wonderful news, though, being witness to war is disheartening.     Overnight reports reflect the siege of Kobani in Syria continuing as the thugs of Dayesh (Also known as the IS/ISIS/ISIL in Western Media) continue to push along despite US-Led airstrikes that seem to have no effect.    The last updates reflect that they have seized the headquarters of the Kurdish defenders and the City Jail.     As the War continues, there is the continued economic uncertainty underscored by Bill Gross, the former Pimco founder now at Janus Capital.--and Bill Gross is one of those men that should be listened to.

Speculators are apparently starting to push markets lower especially with all the uncertainty that is ever so prevalent around the World.    This includes the profound uncertainty in Europe and the fight against Ebola.   There is one welcome respite:  The price of Oil.  It is continuing to drop with the last price at $ 84 a Barrel.
