Iran & Iraq...The Drama Goes On....

The polls in Iran have just opened. This is just a preview to reflect upon the frustruation that this so-called election entails: انتخابات در ایران آغاز شده است ....انتخابات فرمایشی‌

Now, to me, I would not vote in this election. The idea behind running in an election is for people to compete in an atmosphere of ideas. Yes, they have to go out and get signatures and get people to come on board. You compete for the votes and hopefully the best person wins. That's politics. Now, we have a government in Iran that has its' own concept of "managed democracy". First of, there is no democracy...not withstanding what ever the so-called President fo Iran, the so called Dr. Ahmadinejad says. The only people who suffer throughout it all are the 70 million Iranians.

As for Iraq, the killing fields are as busy as ever. Yet, Senator McCain continues to feed this myth of "success". Admiral Fallon paid the price for standing up to a President that has no concept of reality, has a sense of being a legend in his own brain and continues to believe that this is the right move for the country. Yet, the economy is going to hell...and all we hear from Washington is more happy talk.

The Daily Struggle For Our World (Cont'd....)

Well, another interesting day is behind us. Elliot Spitzer did the right thing by resigning. I can't believe someone who's as smart, educated and able as he is got himself in such a predicament. This is especially so in light of all the enemies he had made for himself over the years. But, as Joe Bruno said, the business of the State of New York has to go on. And let it be so....

Now, halfway around the world, the fight for Afghanistan goes on. A suicide bomber just struck, killing five people. Yet, George W. Bush said in a speech to a group of the Amen Crowd about how his decision to attack Iraq was the "right" decision. What he did, by default, was to hand Iraq to Iran. In the meantime, Afghanistan burns and the Taliban become ever more resurgent. In addition, Pakistan is now unstable and continues to burn as well. Juan Cole (http://www.juancole.com) continues to report on the violence in Iraq daily. Yet, John McCain & the Administration continue to feed us this "happy talk" about how things are great. When Admiral Fallon resigned, it spoke volumes about the level of disagreement about Iraq & Iran policy. How long this hypocrisy continues is beyond me....The people seem not to matter...do they?

Mr. Cheney is at it again....

Mr. Cheney is the Vice President of the United States. He ought to be given due respect for the high office he holds. However, he has lied to me repeatedly. He forgets that he works for me. Now, he apparently made a speech saying that "Iran will face consequences...". Well, Mr. Cheney is the man who was one of the culprits that led us to the Iraq fiasco. Now, he (and the amen crowd led by Fox News, The Right Wing Cabale of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, the American Enterprise Institute and the rest of them) wants us to buy off on a strike against Iran. He does not understand that Iran is not Iraq.

Although the National Iranian American Council has made great inroads in countering the warmongers in Washington, it is not enough. I only pray that the American People will continue to be vigiliant, vibrant and hold the government accountable. Sanity and common sense should prevail. The question is: will it?
