The Iowa Floods

Significant portions of Iowa are under water. This will impact the U.S. Economy. Iowa is central to U.S. Food Production. The Mighty Mississippi is closed to traffic because it is simply dangerous to move product through. Now, the President and the Republican Nominee are calling for a lifting of off-shore oil drilling. We need to focus on reducing our carbon footprint. Each person has to take responsibility now. Tomorrow has indeed arrived. I can't imagine what the day after tomorrow will bring.

A Tribute To The Boy Scouts

My son has just finished his first year in the Boy Scouts. I have seen his evolution and the impact the Boy Scouts has had on him. The Boy Scouts represent all that is best about America: Duty, Honor, Intergrity, Sacrifice and humanity. The four Scouts who died in a tornado that struck their camp in Iowa (Source: http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/weather/06/12/severe.weather/index.html, retrieved June 12, 2008) represented that very tradition. They died so young...yet they would live on because of their committment and their outlook on life. May the Lord Bless their precious souls......

Iowa...and all the possibilities.....

Well, Iowa is now over and some things have become clearer. The campaign for the day after George W. Bush has begun..and not a day too soon...

Barrack Obama won the Gold for the Democrats, (As Mitt Romney called it) but John Edwards showed that he's in it for the long haul. Chris Dodd and Joe Biden are pulling out. If a Democrat wins the White House in 2008, that Democrat will be crazy not to consider these two outstanding Americans for Secretary of State, Attorney General or Secretary of the Treasury. I think that it will be a competitive race at least for a while yet on the Democratic Side.

I think the Democratic Party will be stronger for it and will be able to effect the change that is necessary for us all. What is going on now cannot continue. As John Edwards said, we're a better country than to tolerate people with no health insurance, allow children to go to bed hungry and allow over 200,000 veterans to be homeless. Yes, Mitt Romney, there are two Americas and we have to bridge the gap for the sake of the future.

I am not impressed by the Republicans nor particularly care for them because of what they have done to this country over the past eight years. I admit I was surprised when I saw Mike Huckabee win Iowa. I think at least Iowa showed that even the Republicans are looking for more straight talk and fresh ideas...or at least a fresh face, not more of the same. The struggle is on for the future of America and to a large extent, the world. America still matters and everyone needs to realize that.

Another Interesting Week.....

We left an interesting week behind and another interesting week is before us. The Iowa Caucus is about 30 days away, the world is as dangerous as ever, the challenges with the US Economy is ever more, Czar Putin has prevailed in Russia, and James Murdoch just cemented his position as the heir apparent at News Corporation. Rupert Murdoch is to be admired. I have discussed it before. As his son Lachlan said, "..there will only be one Rupert Murdoch....". But, interestingly enough, Rupert is still accountable to shareholders. If he is not able to deliver, he may indeed have a challenge. But, the fact that he seems to be devouring everything in its' wake is a problem. And it seems that there is nothing that we ordinary folks can do about it. Of course, the FCC seems to be the extension of the Media Lobby. The FCC wants the media companies to be bigger and bigger. The question is at what cost? Thankfully, folks like Byron Dorgan, The US Senator from North Dakota, at least is trying to do something about it.

The struggle does indeed continue.....
