Notations On Our World (Weekly Edition): Celebrating The Performing Arts

20-Year-Old Violin Prodigy - Oliver Hakim
This week we are delighted to present 20-year-old violin prodigy, Oliver Hakim, simply known as Hakim. Hakim was born in Los Angeles and has been playing the violin since the age of five. His countless musical influences include Bijan Mortazavi, who was his initial inspiration to pick-up the violin. Hakim plays many styles of music, however, he is particularly passionate about Persian music. He has never had any formal training in Persian "Dastgāh" or traditional music but is rather self-taught and the music comes to him naturally. He believes he inherited his musical talents from his grandfather who was also a violinist in Iran, and although he was raised in the United States, he has a deep connection to his Iranian culture and roots. He is currently a student at the University of Toronto pursuing a major in Arts Management.
