What is Important?
There is a debate raging on in Congress about passing a bill to renew children's healthcare. It seems a humane, common sense thing to do to expand a program that would help needy families. But, President Bush does not like the bill because it raises taxes. What taxes does it raise? Cigarette taxes. Also, The President wants to encourage folks to go buy Private Health Insurance by extending tax credits. How can a family who can't even hardly afford to pay rent, get tax credits for insurance? The sum of zero is in effect, zero. Yet, The Secretary of Defense is asking for $ 190 Billion+ for the "Global War on Terror" aka the War in Iraq and Afghanistan. Where are our prorities? When will we realize what is important? We are increasingly losing our preeminent position in the world. When will it all change?
