Notations On Our World: On the Cont'd aftermath of #ParisAttacks & Other Thoughts......

As the attackers in Paris are identified, Francois Holland went before a joint session of the French  Parliament to note "France is at War".      The mastermind of the attacks has also been identified.   We here @ #Outsiders have decided not to name him because we would give credence to him.

There have been 168 Police raids in France and Belgium as every effort is being made to break the network which has been activated.    It was shocking as a rocket launcher was seized in one of the raids in Lyon as France launched attacks on the Daesh Stronghold of Raqqa.  France will also extend the state of Emergency For Three Months as a minute   The Bill will be presented to Parliament Wednesday as the period of mourning continues in France.

Our founder released this on his personal twitter feed earlier this morning:

What is critical to observe is that he was a victim of their madness and he should be one of the voices that must be listened to.   As we went dark in honor of all the victims, our founder took to his personal page at Founder's Corner to reflect upon this by sharing a very perceptive article on the true reality before us.    It was also telling how Haaretz reported on how Belgium seems to be the center of it all.

US Presidential Candidates have been weighing in--a sampling of their view is noted below:

Jeb 2016!
This morning on NBC’s Meet the Press, I spoke about the horrific terrorist attacks that shook the heart of Paris and called for a comprehensive strategy to defeat ISIS and other radical Islamic terrorists. I wanted to make sure you saw it:

Video.
These attacks are a stark reminder of the serious threat we face. The Obama Administration’s approach has been weak and incremental, too often viewing terrorism as a law enforcement problem. We need to treat it as a war — to take the fight to the enemy

Like you, I've been deeply disturbed and saddened by the horrific attacks that ISIS carried out last night in Paris. I hope you'll join me in praying for the victims and for the people of France.  We need to stand with our allies in France during this difficult time.

These horrors should be a reminder of the conflict we're engaged in. This is not about mere geopolitical grievances -- ISIS and al-Qaeda and other radical Islamist groups want to destroy our civilization, and they won't be stopped until we deprive them of their safe havens and destroy them.

Watch this video for more of my reaction to these horrifying attacks - and the real reasons why radical Islamists seek to kill us:

As we mourn, we can't lose sight of how important it is for us to take this radical Islamist threat seriously, and do all we can to eradicate it.

Sincerely,

Marco Rubio
What must be avoided is simplistic solutions and the blame game as epitomized by some in the US Conservative Movement as noted by the conservative commentator Erick Erickson and with the reaction by The UK Independence party's Nigel Farage accusing British Muslims of disloyalty as the British Prime Minister is speaking right now at London's Guild Hall on the UK response on the security strategy:

We Must Rethink The Syrian Refugee Problem

“[L]et me not now use Paris to justify what I believed about politics the day before Paris.” It is looking more and more likely that the men who perpetrated the attacks on Paris, at least some of them, came into the country as Syrian refugees. In fact, as more and more news reports are finally...  Read in browser »

Islam is a religion of violence

That’s the theological reality of the religion. Yes, the actual theology does matter and that is why this piece by Joel J. Miller matters. Please go read the whole thing.  Read in browser »

What was also quite welcoming is that the group Anonymous declared war on the Islamic State.  As we here @ #outsiders remember the fallen in Paris and all the conflicts around the World, we here @ #Outsiders affirm what our founder reminded us all of:   We Shall Overcome as we also note the Jewish Prayer For Peace as noted by the Scholar Corey Robin:

May we see the day when war and bloodshed cease,
when a great peace will embrace the whole world.
Then nation will not threaten nation,
and mankind will not again know war.
For all who live on earth shall realize
we have not come into being to hate or to destroy.
We have come into being
to praise, to labor and to love.

Notations For the Week-End (Special Edition): On #ParisAttacks & a Prayer For Peace

As we write this, we are monitoring updates from Europe as SkyNews is reporting live on the victims and the aftermath.   129 People have died and 99 are still in hospital.

Parisians are gathering at the Place De La Republic to honor the fallen.  . One of the fallen is a 23-Year Old Student From Cal State Long Beach, Nohemi Gonzalez..     Maddona in Sweden said it best last night during a concert when she noted, "...They want to shut us up...we will never let them."   We here @ #Outsiders echo this sentiment in the strongest possible terms we could muster.

At the G20 Summit, the leaders led a minute of silence to honor the victims of Paris and Ankara.   Condementations have been forthcoming from the entire world.   France has declared 3 Days of National Morning--we here at #Outsiders have decided to go dark for the next 48 hrs in honor of all the victims of all the wars as we leave you all with this image of Paris and the Jewish Prayer for Peace that Corey Robin noted in his blog which we have noted below for reference

& a Muslim Prayer For Peace:

Merciful God, You made all of the people of the world in Your own image and placed before us the pathway of salvation through different Preachers who claimed to have been Your Saints and Prophets. But, the contradictions in their teachings and interpretations of them have resulted in creating divisions, hatreds and bloodshed in the world community. Millions of innocent men, women and children have so far been brutally killed by the militants of several religions who have been committing horrifying crimes against humanity, and millions more would be butchered by them in the future, if You do not help us find ways to reunite peacefully.

IN THE NAME OF GOD, THE COMPASSIONATE, THE MERCIFUL, look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the controversial teachings of arrogance, divisions and hatreds which have badly infected our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; reunite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish Your purposes on earth; that, in Your good time, all nations and races may jointly serve You in justice, peace and harmony.  (Amen)

We shall overcome!!!

Notations On Our World (Special Edition): As the World Remembers Paris.....

It has been quite a day in our World.      One subtle but critical difference that we welcome here in #Outsiders is the fact that France will drop the name "ISIL/ISLAMIC STATE" and refer them to the name we here at #Outsiders have noted repeatedly for the murderers who have wrecked so much misery on Syria and Iraq and now Paris.

The World has come together and it was so beautiful to be witness to it:

We here @ #Outsiders join the World as we say, "..We Shall Overcome" and hope that the G20 will be firm in its' commitment to be transformational in how it deals with the cancer of Daesh as the existential threat of climate change.

Notations On Our World: On the Tragic Day In #France w/the #ParisShooting

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls and French President Francois Hollande attending an emergency meeting at the Interior Minister
President Hollande & Prime Minister Valls

We have been on the World Media Watch throughout the past 5 hours as events have unfolded in Paris.  In a series of apparent coordinated attacks, a number of key venues in Central Paris were attacked and there have been multitude fatatlies.   Our team and our founder have been on Twitter sharing periodic updates.    What was horrific was the latest we just received on 100 people having been killed at the Batalcan Concert Venue. +FRANCE 24  is reporting live on the situation right now and is hereby available here. as the Police have raided the Concert hall.

The President of France has declared a State of Emergency throughout France as the Goverment of France come to grips with the aftermath of this horrific and heinous act.     President Hollande spoke within the past hour to update France and the world on the situation as he also chaired a meeting of the French Cabinet:

President Hollande  along with the Prime Minister went on to  the Concert Hall to assess the situation as President Hollande has cancelled his scheduled trip to the G20.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims of this tragedy as we extend our profound sense of condolosences to the people of France during this very dark hour.

Notations On Our World: Briefly On #Iraq, #Syria, #Lebanon, #Burma & The US Election Scene

On the Front Lines in Sinjar:  Source (The Daily Beast)

As we went to press today, we are reviewing reports from the fronts lines on the battle launched by the Syrian Kurds to retake Sinjar.    Reports we have reviewed from various sources on the ground note that some 7500 fighters backed by US-Led Air strikes are leading the charges against Daesh (also referred to as IS/ISIL/etc. in the West)  Fighters.

The significance of this battle cannot be overstated.   If the Kurds can break the siege, it will set the stage for the eventual liberation of Mosul that has been under Daesh for over a year.     This is as Daesh has suffered a few tactical setbacks inside Syria as well.    The face of this woman that the Daily Beast's Wladimir van Wilgenburg captured,  it underscores the challenges before these brave souls.

Beyond The battlegrounds of Syria and Iraq, there is another "proxy war" that is on-going as well.  As we went to press today, we just received reports on a twin bombing at the Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut.  As we have noted in our "Notations", Lebanon is at the frontline of the battle against Daesh because of Hezbollah's involvement.   Lebanon also does not have a government--as such, Hezbollah is the defacto Government and the fact that suicide bombers have been able to penetrate as they have as Hezbollah fighters are dying is a signficant development.

There is also the Political battles.   One of the highlights of the past 24 hours we've been assessing here at #Outsiders has been the game changing election in #Burma (also referred to as #Myanmar).  Our founder has never been fond of the name change and he noted that he made it a point of congratulating one of the winners of the candidates of the National League for Democracy.  What is significant is that the Head of the Army and the President have come out to concede defeat.  We will be on the "Prowl" on this transition process over the ensuing weeks.

Since we're also focused on political battles, the US Presidential Campaign is continuing.   Our team has been assessing the aftermath of the latest GOP debate and it appears that the front runners (Dr. Carson and Mr. Trump) continue to be on track.    There Media though is "hot and heavy" investigating inconsistencies and updates on all campaigns as all the campaigns are on the daily "Virtual Stump" to tout their achievement.      One interesting election coming up is going to be Louisiana whereby it will be interesting if a Democrat in fact can replace Bobby Jindal who has touted his own achievement in the face of the unpopularity he has faced.     Here is a sampling of the "mainstream media" assessments for reference:

1) Time Magazine
Why the Republican Debate Didn't End the Party's Crisis
Tuesday night’s presidential debate failed to produce a clear winner, suggesting the road to a GOP nominee is going to be a wild and unpredictable one

2) Red State

Cruz, Rubio, and Fox Business For the Win
Fox Business gave the debate all the other networks should have given, including the first Fox News debate. It was not flashy. But it was substantive. It was not just that the candidates had more time or that there were less candidates. The moderators did a good job of drawing out policy differences without intentionally setting up fights. They just happened naturally.

Bill Shine, Roger Ailes, and Fox should be really, really proud of Fox Business.

Cruz really won tonight. He had just a stellar performance. Every word was memorable. Every line was precisely delivered. His defense of his tax plan was solid. His use of Rubio supported sugar subsidies as a way to both defend Rubio on defense spending while throwing Rubio under the bus was first class debate strategy.

3) Washington Post

— More than the previous three debates, last night’s showdown in the Badger State highlighted the very real rifts that exist within the Republican coalition, from foreign policy to fiscal policy. “There were no clear winners, at least not so much as in the earlier debates, in part because there were strong moments for many of the candidates, as one after another grabbed for the spotlight,” the Post’s chief correspondent, Dan Balz, files from Milwaukee. “It’s not likely that what happened will dramatically change the current shape of the race. But in highlighting the deeper differences in the party [especially on immigration], the evening’s discussions provided a helpful roadmap to the issues that will help determine the eventual nominee.” and this on Veterans Day Eve:

The fourth GOP debate is more about the party’s path than personal attacks
The event spotlighted differences over immigration, fighting the Islamic State and other intractable issues.

Notations On Our World (Special Edition): On This Veterans Day 2015

Today is   a day to rememeber and honor all who have served.       We wanted to share this very touching gesture from the team +GovLoop to thank Veterans for their service which we hope all will reach out to all who have served:

It only takes a few seconds.
GOVLOOP DAILY AWESOME
November 11, 2015

Almost 100 years ago, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed, "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…”

His stirring words still ring true today. As we commemorate this Veterans Day almost a century later, we say thank you to the people who serve this great country. If you want to send a special thank you card to the Veteran in your life, sign up below:

THANK VETERANS WITH THIS E-CARD

Happy Veterans Day 2015 To All Who Have Served......

We here @ #Outsiders wanted to take this opportunity to wish all US Veterans and their families a Happy Veterans.  In honor of Veterans Day, #Outsiders will be "dark" although we will be periodically updating our Twitter Feed throughout the day.

It is also of note that Britain remembers the same day as Armistice Day whereby some 30 Million Britons will observe a 2 Minute of silence on the 11th Hour of the 11th day to remember the fallen by wearing the Poppy.   One of the first ceremonies was in Australia as Prince Charles led remembrance ceremonies In Australia.

Happy Veterans & Armistice Day Day!!!

Notations On Our World: On the Latest On the US Election Scene

The latest Republican Debate will be on the air on Fox Business in a few hours.    It was quite interesting as the Fox Host, Maria Bartolome, noted how GOP candidates needed to grow up.  The field, though, continues to be ever so volatile as Ben Carson continues to top the national polls with Marco Rubio continuing to rise.

The Rubio Campaign sent out this "call to action" earlier:

mike p,

A story just broke tonight in the New York Times that revealed Jeb Bush's Super PAC's Plan to attack Marco. They write:

"The group's chief strategist has boasted of his willingness to spend as much as $20 million to damage Mr. Rubio's reputation and halt his sudden ascent in the polls"

You read that right. Jeb's plan is to spend $20 million dollars to "damage Mr. Rubio's reputation." Not just talk about how they differ on the issues but to actively try to destroy Marco's reputation. And they're bragging about that? How is that the kind of "joyful" campaign that Jeb claimed he wanted to run?!?!

Jeb Bush helped raise $100 million for this Super PAC. They will outspend us. That's just a fact. Marco didn't inherit a national network of wealthy, well-connected donors.

It get's better. Jeb's Super PAC has even produced a video claiming that Marco is too Pro-Life!!! Honestly, it's something we'd expect from Hillary and the mainstream media, but the fact that the Republican establishment believes this is what they need to do to take down Marco is astonishing.

We have to get Marco's back and help him stand strong against this desperate move.

Thanks for your help -- we'll keep you updated as we learn more about these secret plans.

Sincerely,

Terry Sullivan
Campaign Manager
Marco Rubio for President

P.S. This is even more unbelievable: the Jeb Bush Super PAC is so desperate to try and bring down Marco they've held "focus groups" with voters to zero in on the most damaging attacks. That's what we're up against and that's why Marco urgently needs your support.

We also saw this from the Jindal Campaign as he sent brief comments from his "Blackberry":

I just completed my walkthrough for tonight’s presidential debate on the FOX Business Network at 7pm Eastern. (If you don’t get FOX Business Network on your TV, you can watch tonight's debate online at FoxBusiness.com/). This is what I’ll get to see during the debate:

I’ll be in debate prep meetings this afternoon, but I’m asking my team for a report on how many of our great grassroots activists (like you) have chipped in to show their support before this evening.

We have "edited out" the fundraising links.

Notations On Our World: On South Africa & the #Xi, #MA Show in #Singapore

The disturbing trends in South Africa is ever so evident apparently by the comments by The South African President, Jacob Zuma, which has caused an uproar in opposition circles.   As our team assessed this latest development, we could not help but wonder what Nelson Mandela's reaction to all of this is:  Zuma's 'ANC comes first' comments signs of a dictatorship - EFF

Moving halfway around the World,  the head of the Two Chinas Met.    What is clear is simply this:  it is not a question of if but when the last bastion of China will join up with the mainland not withstanding what the United States might or might not want--and the Economist' KAL captured this sentiment once again brilliantly:

Notations On Our World: On the United States....

It was quite a week on the US Election Scene.   Ben Carson has been challenged about his biography as Marco Rubio has been questioned about his personal finances.    In the meantime, though, the business of Government continues.

The US Labor Department noted that unemployment continues to decrease as the Congressiona Budget Office Came out with this on the deficit:

New From CBO

Monthly Budget Review: Summary for Fiscal Year 2015

In fiscal year 2015, which ended on September 30, the federal budget deficit totaled $439 billion—$44 billion less than the shortfall in 2014. Fiscal year 2015 was the sixth consecutive year in which the deficit declined as a share of the nation's gross domestic product.

It will be interesting to see how the GOP responds to this especially as a new debate is before us.   Our team also revisited this very hard hitting article from the London Review of Books on the GOP candidates available here--Scott Walker is no longer part of the campaign and is now raising money to pay off campaign debt.     This is also as Kareem Abdul Jabbar published a TIme Magazine column on Ben Carson which underscored Dr. Carson's sense of accomplishment as it questioned his views--and of course what he did with Donald Trump that prompted this response:
Trump was on Saturday Night Live--and reviews our team saw as it went to press was not too "Stellar".

    Interesting times.....

Notations On Our World (Special Edition): On #India & #Burma

Our team has been on the prowl on the pivotal elections in India as part of our hastag daily #India watch.   The election results in India have been quite a shocker.

When we began monitoring the results coming in, we were releasing results courtesy of the team at @NDTV as it had exit polls forecasting a BJP-Led victory in Bihar.   What is critical to note is that Bihar is a state with 100 Million People (10% of India).   As such, what happened in India matters.     It was remarkable how the BJP was defeated as it was.

This from +NDTV is remarkable in its' mea-copa on the aftermath of the reporting:

     http://www.ndtv.com/video/player/ndtv-special-ndtv-24x7/bihar-verdict-national-impact/390130

As our team continues its' analysis, what we have realized is that the polling-industrial complex has to change and our team as of now will not report on any polling at all in light of this.    We could not agree more with the +NDTV founder as he noted how it was such a fantastic election.    The Indian Prime Minister and his high command has some major thinking to do.

Our team is also assessing the elections in Burma (also known as Myanmar).   As we went to press, we understand that the Nationa League for Democracy is heading for a landslide based on actual results coming in.   We will have more to say on it over the ensuing few days.

As we have been assessing our world, one thing we know is this:  these are truly interesting times.....

Notations On Our World: On Iran Changing

    Iran 2025 Time Magazine Cover

As a new week dawns, we here @ #Outsiders just like many were startled at this front cover of Time Magazine as Iran changes.   The hardliners have been hard at work right now detaining journalists and other activitsts as the pace of executions has clearly picked up.    The Iranian President came out within the last day or so lamenting the fact that it is a shame that Iranian publications have not lasted as long as the New York Times.

It is fascinating to be witness to such change.

Notations On Our Word: An #Outsider Newsflash on #Keystone XL (With Updated Comments From @POTUS)

It has been an interesting day as President Obama rejected the Keystone Pipeline.  One of the campaigners at the forefront of this struggle sent out this advisory earlier--TransCanada had filed a request for delay thinking that a Republican Adminstration would be more favorable pending a review by the State of Nebraska.    But the President thought otherwise:

    NextGen Climate
Today, President Obama rejected the Keystone XL pipeline -- and the power of the American people decisively beat out the fossil fuel lobby.

The leader of the free world stood side-by-side with a brave and diverse clean energy coalition, and pointed our country towards a brighter, more prosperous future.

This decision is as much a 'yes' to clean energy, as it is a 'no' to the pipeline. Our leaders can no longer ignore this simple fact: Americans from across the political spectrum strongly favor clean energy over the dirty energy of the past -- and they are willing to fight for it. It's time for our leaders to continue this momentum by laying out a plan that will get us to more than 50 percent clean energy by 2030.

I'm very proud to have stood with all of you in this fight.....

    Thanks,

    Tom Steyer

    NextGen Climate

We just saw this from the White House:

     THE WHITE HOUSE

    “President
This morning, speaking from the Roosevelt Room, the President announced that the State Department determined that the Keystone XL Pipeline would not serve the national interest of the United States.
For years, this topic has occupied a huge portion of our country's climate discourse. And after explaining why this pipeline "would not serve the national interest of the United States," the President called attention to the broader climate challenges facing America and the global community heading into international climate negotiations in Paris this December:
"…we’ve got to come together around an ambitious framework to protect the one planet that we’ve got while we still can. If we want to prevent the worst effects of climate change before it’s too late, the time to act is now. Not later. Not someday. Right here, right now."
Here's the full text of his remarks -- they're worth a read.
THE PRESIDENT: Good morning, everybody. Several years ago, the State Department began a review process for the proposed construction of a pipeline that would carry Canadian crude oil through our heartland to ports in the Gulf of Mexico and out into the world market.
This morning, Secretary Kerry informed me that, after extensive public outreach and consultation with other Cabinet agencies, the State Department has decided that the Keystone XL Pipeline would not serve the national interest of the United States. I agree with that decision.
This morning, I also had the opportunity to speak with Prime Minister Trudeau of Canada. And while he expressed his disappointment, given Canada’s position on this issue, we both agreed that our close friendship on a whole range of issues, including energy and climate change, should provide the basis for even closer coordination between our countries going forward. And in the coming weeks, senior members of my team will be engaging with theirs in order to help deepen that cooperation.
Now, for years, the Keystone Pipeline has occupied what I, frankly, consider an overinflated role in our political discourse. It became a symbol too often used as a campaign cudgel by both parties rather than a serious policy matter. And all of this obscured the fact that this pipeline would neither be a silver bullet for the economy, as was promised by some, nor the express lane to climate disaster proclaimed by others.
To illustrate this, let me briefly comment on some of the reasons why the State Department rejected this pipeline.
First: The pipeline would not make a meaningful long-term contribution to our economy. So if Congress is serious about wanting to create jobs, this was not the way to do it. If they want to do it, what we should be doing is passing a bipartisan infrastructure plan that, in the short term, could create more than 30 times as many jobs per year as the pipeline would, and in the long run would benefit our economy and our workers for decades to come.
Our businesses created 268,000 new jobs last month. They’ve created 13.5 million new jobs over the past 68 straight months -- the longest streak on record. The unemployment rate fell to 5 percent. This Congress should pass a serious infrastructure plan, and keep those jobs coming. That would make a difference. The pipeline would not have made a serious impact on those numbers and on the American people’s prospects for the future.
Second: The pipeline would not lower gas prices for American consumers. In fact, gas prices have already been falling -- steadily. The national average gas price is down about 77 cents over a year ago. It’s down a dollar over two years ago. It’s down $1.27 over three years ago. Today, in 41 states, drivers can find at least one gas station selling gas for less than two bucks a gallon. So while our politics have been consumed by a debate over whether or not this pipeline would create jobs and lower gas prices, we’ve gone ahead and created jobs and lowered gas prices.
Third: Shipping dirtier crude oil into our country would not increase America’s energy security. What has increased America’s energy security is our strategy over the past several years to reduce our reliance on dirty fossil fuels from unstable parts of the world. Three years ago, I set a goal to cut our oil imports in half by 2020. Between producing more oil here at home, and using less oil throughout our economy, we met that goal last year -- five years early. In fact, for the first time in two decades, the United States of America now produces more oil than we buy from other countries.
Now, the truth is, the United States will continue to rely on oil and gas as we transition -- as we must transition -- to a clean energy economy. That transition will take some time. But it’s also going more quickly than many anticipated. Think about it. Since I took office, we’ve doubled the distance our cars will go on a gallon of gas by 2025; tripled the power we generate from the wind; multiplied the power we generate from the sun 20 times over. Our biggest and most successful businesses are going all-in on clean energy. And thanks in part to the investments we’ve made, there are already parts of America where clean power from the wind or the sun is finally cheaper than dirtier, conventional power.
The point is the old rules said we couldn’t promote economic growth and protect our environment at the same time. The old rules said we couldn’t transition to clean energy without squeezing businesses and consumers. But this is America, and we have come up with new ways and new technologies to break down the old rules, so that today, homegrown American energy is booming, energy prices are falling, and over the past decade, even as our economy has continued to grow, America has cut our total carbon pollution more than any other country on Earth.
Today, the United States of America is leading on climate change with our investments in clean energy and energy efficiency. America is leading on climate change with new rules on power plants that will protect our air so that our kids can breathe. America is leading on climate change by working with other big emitters like China to encourage and announce new commitments to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions. In part because of that American leadership, more than 150 nations representing nearly 90 percent of global emissions have put forward plans to cut pollution.
America is now a global leader when it comes to taking serious action to fight climate change. And frankly, approving this project would have undercut that global leadership. And that’s the biggest risk we face -- not acting.
Today, we’re continuing to lead by example. Because ultimately, if we’re going to prevent large parts of this Earth from becoming not only inhospitable but uninhabitable in our lifetimes, we’re going to have to keep some fossil fuels in the ground rather than burn them and release more dangerous pollution into the sky.
As long as I’m President of the United States, America is going to hold ourselves to the same high standards to which we hold the rest of the world. And three weeks from now, I look forward to joining my fellow world leaders in Paris, where we’ve got to come together around an ambitious framework to protect the one planet that we’ve got while we still can.
If we want to prevent the worst effects of climate change before it’s too late, the time to act is now. Not later. Not someday. Right here, right now. And I’m optimistic about what we can accomplish together. I’m optimistic because our own country proves, every day -- one step at a time -- that not only do we have the power to combat this threat, we can do it while creating new jobs, while growing our economy, while saving money, while helping consumers, and most of all, leaving our kids a cleaner, safer planet at the same time.
That’s what our own ingenuity and action can do. That's what we can accomplish. And America is prepared to show the rest of the world the way forward.
    Thank you very much.

Notations On Our World: A Disturbing Day in Our World On #Egypt & #Maldives

It has been a very tragic day in our World as reports have been circulating around the World on the Russian Jet that crashed in Egypt.   There are reports out of the United Kingdom and the United States that A Bomb may have brought down the plane.   It is a developing story as underscored by the UK Prime Minister's Statement earlier today: "..While the investigation is still ongoing we cannot say categorically why the Russian jet crashed. But as more information has come to light we have become concerned that the plane may well have been brought down by an explosive device....      The British have suspended all flights as the Security Chief has been fired:

The State Department spokesman underscored that this is still an open investigation--while underscoring the fact that US Personnel are to stay away from the Sinai in Egypt that is in the midst of a major insurgency.     There are also reports of a video being captured by a videographer capturing the explosion in the air.    It will truly be challenging on a multitude of fronts.

We have also been assessing the situation in the Maldives.   The President of the Maldives has just anounced a state of emergency as Maldives has been in the midst of a major political challenge due to the detention of the opposition leader and former President Mohammad Nasheed.    Nasheed was the first Democratically Elected President who spoke up for climate change before it became fashionable and held a Cabinet meeting under warter to underscore the predicament his country faced:

As Maldives is sinking, it is tragic to see how it is in the midst of the challenge that it is as it is dealing with overpopulation, substance abuse and a high degree of unemployment in what is truly regarded as one of the most beautiful places on Earth:

Notations On Our World: Remembering #Rabin

As the war in Syria continues, the Palestine Intifidah continues and the Middle East Continues to be as chaotic as ever, this past weekend saw Israel remembering a fallen hero, Yitzhak Rabin.    Bill Clinton spoke as he remembered his partner in peace.

Rabin gave his life for peace and it was remarkable how the people came out to remember someone who was a soldier and had the courage to go for peace.     As we reflected upon the 20th anniversary of that horrible day, we could not help but wonder what may have been had he lived.
